Cultural Capital
Our curriculum breadth provides the key knowledge within each subject area and allows for the development our pupils’ growing cultural capital.
Cultural capital is the accumulation of knowledge, behaviours, and skills that pupils can draw upon and which demonstrates their cultural awareness, knowledge, competence and understanding required to succeed in a modern society. It is a way to celebrate and embrace the different backgrounds, heritage, language and traditions of all the children living in this country.
The National Curriculum states: ‘It is the essential knowledge that pupils need to be educated citizens, introducing them to the best that has been thought and said and helping to engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.’
We provide this through the range of texts our children are exposed to, the vocabulary they develop, their general knowledge, their cultural experiences and their awareness of the British values.
