Food Ambassadors
The Food Ambassadors at St Francis Catholic Primary School are a body of eight Year 5 pupils who have applied to be representatives of their peers’ voices in ensuring that they take a proactive role in our school's food provision. Helping to improve its quality, increase the uptake of school meals, and enhance the dining experience for all. These pupils will act as a voice for their fellow classmates and will be required to help ensure that the food we eat is both delicious and as healthy as possible. The Food Ambassadors will be required to consult with peers, staff and parents on developing a healthy school and to represent views on these issues to school management.
Food Ambassador Representatives for 2024-25
To begin our Food Ambassador training we thought about what we enjoy about our schools meals and what we would change.
We then created a questionnaire and asked the rest of the school on their thoughts too.
Here are our findings:
What do we enjoy about our school meals?
They have different varieties of food.
All the food are from the eat well plate.
They have a salad bar.
They have a variety of fruits and vegetables.
They give us energy and are tasty
The dinner ladies are kind.
What would make them even better?
Having the salad bar everyday.
If they weren't as expensive.
If the food was a little warmer but this is not the case all of the time.
If the portions were bigger.
If people wasted less food.
The Food Ambassadors in action....
We are available in the hall on Monday to Thursday each week.
Mrs Iddison has created a rota which is displayed on our Food Ambassador display in the hall.
We work in pairs to support the children within Early Years and KS1.
We offer support with clearing away their plates and offering encouragement by giving out stickers
for healthy lunchboxes and good table manners.
We meet every Friday lunchtime to feedback and discuss our ideas on how we can improve the lunchtime experience for the whole school.
Competition Time!
We are entering a competition ran by Warburtons to design healthy lunchboxes that tell a story.
After completing further training about the Eatwell Guide we are going to create our own Ultimate Eatwell for Less lunchboxes
The challenge is to Eatwell for Less by including frozen, cupboard or leftover ingredients in our lunchbox.
If we are successful four lucky winners will receive individual personalised lunchboxes and Warburtons goody bags.
Additionally, school will receive an overall prize of a £200 supermarket voucher!
